Well, I just finifhed a 3 hour canoe trip on the Mad River with some friends. I should also mention that this is the first time I’ve been in a boat that required paddling.
Overall, I did very well for my first trip. A coworker of mine is an avid kyaker who like to tell tales of his river exploits in great detail. It see.s that paying attention to those tales has helped out. I picked up steering and control very quickly (I’m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination).
Rick and Eric, thought, ended up spending more time in the river than in the canoe. They managed to trip themselves up on every major and minor obstacle there was. Even getiing stuck 10 minutes into the trip on the first set of “rapids” (term used loosely).
However, what they did in quantity, I made up for in quality. They may have had more wipe-outs, Crystal and mine was more grand.
Up until this point, everything had gone fine. Steerin was fine. Speeding up and braking was fine. predicting currents? Not so fine. I ended up misjudging the strength of a particular current. When Crystal and I realized that we were in trouble, we both tried to push off of the nearest branches, resulting in us capsizing to the opposite side.
After recoveeing from the stark cold water, laughing my butt off. getting control of the canoe, making sure Crystal didn’t drown and securing the oars, I realized that I had lost my glasses.
Now I am off to a 1 hour eyeglass place to try and get a decent replacement pair. Or two.
Overall, a fun trip even though it’s going to cost me.

Few people in this world reach a type of stardom that David Hasselhoff has reached.
On one hand, I’m insanely intrigued by it, but, at the same time, incredibly disturbed. I am, of course, speaking of the David Hasselhoff Social Network. A.K.A. Hoffspace.
I also say everything above being a David Hasselhoff fan.

Violent video gaming comes to the Wii. They say this like MadWorld is a new thing to the Wii. Where were these people when No More Heroes was released?
This MadWorld can’t really have more blood and gore than No More Heroes, what, with it’s decapitations, splitting enemies in half both with massive amounts of blood), masturbation-esque sword charging and toilet humor way of saving games.
True, No More heroes didn’t sell well (only 200,000 copies in the US)*, but I think that has more to do with going up against Nintendo Titles like Smash Brothers Brawl than any fault of the game In fact, the game was rated fairly well, receiving a 9.0 from Gamespot, 5 stars from G$ TV and a 7.8 from IGN.
They’re harping on MadWorld, yet, the only mention of No More Heroes is in the comments section; Not surprisingly, from a fan complaining that people should leave well enough alone and let adults enjoy adult-oriented games.

Great, companies are releasing patches that bring speed enhancements to SSDs.
However, Microsoft is only releasing updates for Vista, which doesn’t make much sense as most of the devices out that currently use SSDs are netbooks and almost all of them run XP. In fact, Microsoft has extended support for XP specifically for these devices. So…where’s these improvements for the OS that’s going to use them the most?

While asking pirates what it take to actually buy games is a noble thing, you do have to take their answers with some salt.
Not surprising, DRM was at the top of the hit list. I despise DRM, too, but how many of the responses in this category were people who just wanted the obstacles to free games removed completely? With DRM out of the way (which I’m in favor of), what’s to change their behavior? Unless prices drastically drop, nothing.
Then, of course, there’s the people that will never buy a game and will insist on pirating it no matter what, citing personal beliefs. Remember, there are people that just want to watch the world burn.
Still, companies have historically resorted to working with the very people who have slighted them before (hiring hackers as security experts, for example). This is just an extension of that mentality.

Let me get this straight. You’re sueing the company that made the e-voting systems we have to use this fall for faulty software that loses votes and crashes, yet, we’re supposed to “not be alarmed”?
/sigh
I’m beginning to think that monkeys are in charge. And not the trained ones that we can send in space. No, these are the poo-flinging, bug-eating kind.

I’ve done a decent amount of bagging on the iPhone tonight. I won’t own one myself, but it is worth noting when someone does something right for it. For instance, the Wordpress iPhone app.
Watch the video and be amazed!

Apple has removed a useless app from their online store. I do not begrudge them this. It’s their store and their rules apply.
However, this, application, called “I am Rich” did nothing but put an icon on your iPhone. And it costs $999.99 USD.
The questions everyone is asking are:
1. How did this app get through the approval process?
and
2. Would anyone actually buy this?
Well, the answer to #2 is yes, albeit accidentally. Sort of.
UPDATE: Eight people were silly enough to buy this application before Apple yanked it. My faith in human intelligence is that much lower today.
