Clerks 2

Posted by J.A.S.O.N. on 28 Jul 2006 | Tagged as: Entertainment

God, I wish I could’ve made it out to see this one on opening day. I still haven’t made it out to see it and that makes little Jason cry…

For anyone who’s remotely interested, Clerks 2 managed to nab (according to BoxOfficeGuru.com) $10.1m it’s opening weekend. Normally, I’d call that a flop. Normally.

See, “normally” means that when studios earn less than $30m on a flick when they spent over $50m to make and another $10-$15m to market and promote, it tanks. Clerks 2, however, cost Kevin Smith and co. only $5m to make and probably less than $100k to promote. Which means that they earned twice that back in one weekend. I don’t know many movies made recently that can claim that.

When all is said and done, the bean-counters are expecting Clerks 2 to gross about $20m from it’s entire theatrical run. Again, not impressive, but that means that everything is covered and all the DVD sales (which, if previous Clerks and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back figures are any indication, I’d figure about another $25-$30m) is all profit.

Not bad, for a flop.

And they did it my knowing their market and targeting them specifically. I think the rest of the movie industry could learn something from them. It’s definitly re-defined how I look at box-office openers.

Man-law

Women, remember the following:

Men are NOT mind readers.

Learn to work the toilet seat.
You’re a big girl. If it’s up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don’t hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

Sunday sports. It’s like the full moon or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

Shopping is NOT a sport.
And no, we are never going to think of it that way.

Crying is blackmail.

Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That’s what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

A headache that lasts for 17 months is a Problem. See a doctor!

Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 Days.

If you won’t dress like the Victoria’s Secret girls, don’t Expect us to act like soap opera guys.

If you think you’re fat, you probably are.
Don’t ask us.

If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one

You can either ask us to do something
Or tell us how you want it done.
Not both.
If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.

Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

If it itches, it will be scratched.
We do that.

If we ask what is wrong and you say “nothing,” We will act like nothing’s wrong.
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

If you ask a question you don’t want an answer to, Expect an answer you don’t want to hear.

When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine… Really.

Don’t ask us what we’re thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun formation, or golf.

You have! enough clothes.

You have too many shoes.

I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

Ghost Rider (2007)

IMDB has infor up on the Ghost Rider movie. Nick Cage as Johnny Blaze. Due out in 2007.

My personal thoughts on it? I love Nick Cage and think he’ll be an excellent Johnny Blaze. Ghost Rider and the Midnight Sons have always been an interesting group of comics and I hope Mark Johnson (Daredevil, Elektra) does the series justice.

The only think that’d make me giddier is if Sam Raimi was directing and they somehow wedged Bruce Campbell in as Johnny Blaze.

Ode to a rubber chicken

Just when you think the people you work with are sane, something like this creeps up.

Ode to a rubber chicken
By Rick Roberts

With flightless wings devoid of down
And gaping maw as sweet as a dove
With only bumpled skin to serve as gown
Fare-thee-well, my neoprene love.

Prized higher yet than all other chickens
From me thou wert stolen like chads from Gore
And still my love for thee yet thickens
Tho’ faith my body’s parts are no longer sore.

No more am I to be thy guide
Or on nights to lie and spoon
How I long to snuggle by they side
OH FIE! on he who took my love–thou goon.

He who finds this love of mine come hither
And here end my continuing dither

My Sarisara Store

MY SARISARI STORE is an awesome photoblog about life in the Philippines. Sure, it’s a photoblog, but it’s hard not to look at these photos and feel something. Everything from feeling awful that people live in some of these conditions to seeing the joy some of the children show in their lives. Sometimes all in the same photo!

If you’re into photography, then I’d bookmark this that site. The photos in it are some great stuff and you can really pick up some good techniques if you pay attention.

What element are you?

Ignoring the fact that “wood” isn’t an element, you can blame Amanda for this one.

Your Element is Wood

Your power colors: green and brown

Your energy: generative

Your season: spring

Like a tree, you are always growing and changing.
And while your life is dynamic, you are firmly grounded.
You have high morals and great confidence in yourself and others.
You have a wide set of interests, and you make for intersting company.

Weekend in review

“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you” -Nathaniel Hawthorne

On Saturday, Crystal and I decided to take Shelby to the Butterfly House at the Cox Arboretum. Bad day. Seriously. It was about 96 degrees outside with little wind and almost no shade.

Still, Shelby had fun looking at the butterflies and the caterpillars, I got some good photos and even Crystal got into it.

Still, thought, it was way too hot to stay out there for any prolonged period of time, so, after about an hour and a half or so, we trucked on over to Cold Stone for some ice cream relief then over to Dorothy Lane Market for some dinner ideas. Rosemary-garlic lambchops with sweet pepper wild rice. It sounds good, but didn’t really come out right. The lamb was fattier than it looked and the rice just didn’t come out well at all. I’ll try it with leaner steaks next time and maybe do some rosemary-garlic mashed potatoes to go with it.

Sunday was a lounge day. We cleaned up the house a bit, did laundry, dishes, etc and I spent the rest of the evening on World of Warcraft while Crystal and Shelby watched movies (which I half payed attention to while playing).

All-in-all, a pretty good weekend.
