11Alive.com: Atlanta Entertainment - Isaac Hayes Quits ‘South Park’
Isaac Hayes seems to have a problem with South Park poking fun at Scientology. Which is entertaining considering South Park makes fun of everyone.
“There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins,” the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.
“Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored,” he continued. “As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices.”
That’s odd. I seem to remember Mr. Hayes being in numerous shows where other religions (mostly Christianity) were targeted by the show’s creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Where were his claims of intolerance and bigotry towards other’s religious beliefs then? Where was his outrage? Must be under that stack of $50’s off to the left.
“South Park” co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with The Associated Press Monday, saying, “This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology… He has no problem — and he’s cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians.”
Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker “never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin.”
Allow me to rephrase Mr. Hayes’ real objections:
“There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards MY religious beliefs
of others beginsbegins,” the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.“MY religious beliefs are sacred
to people, and at all times should be respected and honored,” he continued. “As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespectsthoseMY beliefs and practices.”
Mr. Hayes, you, sir, are a bigot, a hack and a hypocrite. I have zero respect for you and am glad you will no longer discrace South Park with your presence. It’s funny that the response from the creators to your leaving the show has been “so what?”.
I’d be very much surprised if they weren’t already hard at work creating new shows that not only further defame your religion of choice, but target you specifically. While I don’t watch South Park often enough to be even considered a casual watcher, I will be sure to not only have my popcorn ready to go when these episodes air, but I will be sure to record them so that I may have hours of amusement at your expense for acting like a complete jackass.

I saw a clip of the part where they explain the whole Xenu thing. They have on the screen “This is what Scientologists actually believe”. That alone was worth the price of admission.
mmm … religion brings out the best in hypocrisy. doesn’t it?
