Vacation in review

I guess the only way I’m going to get this done is to just go ahead and do it. So, here goes.
I started the vacation off by getting my grubby little hands on Thief 3 and, summarily, got addicted and spent the next day or so advancing that addiction, much to the chagrin of the wife.
Once the foot came down, we decided to take a day and go to the Cincinnati Museum Center, which includes the Cincinnati History Museum, Cinergy Children’s Museum, Museum of Natural History & Science and an IMAX theater. We declined on the Cincinnati History Museum and Cinergy Children’s Museum, but was all bout the Museum of Natural History & Science and IMAX theater. Pictures will be up as soon as I stop procrastinating.
The IMAX was showing Australia. This was the first time I’ve ever been to an IMAX and definitly recommend it to anyone. Shelby didn’t appreciate the sprialing tunnel they use as an introduction, but calmed down after that part finished. The rest she treated like a giant TV, which, I suppose, is better than being horrified at the experience.
Next, we visited the United States Air Force Museum. If you’ve never been next to a large aircraft, let me warn you that it is a very humbling experience. Of course I was a dolt and forgot my camera. Guess that’s an excuse to make another trip soon! I have severe vertigo issues with looking up in large, open buildings. Most of the time I can control it, but not here. Having these giant machines right over your head is very intimidating and there were parts that almost had me crawling.
That said, they had some of the most impressive planes I’ve seen. They had the B2 bomber, the F117A Stealth Fighter, the A-10A ThunderboltII and, of course, the mighty SR-71 Blackbird along with the experimental crafts that preceeded them. Again, if you’re ever near Fairborn, OH (and, really, why would you?) you should stop by and check it out.
The rest of the vacation was spent hanging out with friends, eating out, relaxing and watching an obscene amount of DVDs. Which I will go into now.
- Looney Tunes: Back in Action
Had me in stitches. I’m a huge Brendan Fraser fan and couldn’t resist picking is up. It had me howling from beginning to end with the usuall Looney Tunes slapstick everyone’s come to love and cherish. - Bubba Hotep
Did I mention that I’m a huge Bruce Campbell fan, too? Lots of line laughs and a few classic scenes (the whole scarab-fighting scene reeked of Ash). Overall, though, the movie left me a bit dissapointed. I guess I was expecting more from a Bruce Campbell movie. It’s not that it wasn’t entertaining. It was. I guess I just have a higher expectation that wasn’t met. Regardless, it sits on my DVD shelf and will be around for all my old-Elvis watching pleasure. - Monster
Crystal wanted to rent this one. It was interesting to watch (assuming it was accurate) how Aileen Wuornos went about her life and relationship with Selby Wall. Charlize Theron’s performance was spectacular and pulled even me in. It’s not one I’d watch often, but an interesting movie to say the least. - Hellboy
Don’t buy this one for the story plot or the incredible acting. You simply won’t find it. You will, however, find lots of fight scenes that involve lots of heavy objects being used as weapons to smash skulls in and lots of explosions. Simply put, a guy movie.
Of course there was a few days of housework involved. Laundry, dishes, etc.
That’s it in a nutshell. Pretty good vacation if i do say so m’self. Very low-stress and relaxing.
I LOVE Bruce Campbell! I have Bubba HoTep on our Netflix list- be awhile before we see it though but I’m looking forward to it.
Did you ever watch his short lived tv show- the one where he was a spy or some shit for the Brits? Hilarious!
Mmm, ’splosions!
