MobileRead Networks - Dump IE

All you Internet Explorer users need to sit up and take notice. I’ll spell it out for you:

IE. Sucks.

That simple. It’s old, buggy and full of vulnerabilities that every other broswer maker has fixed.

There are rumblings of MS putting the IE development team back together, but until something comes out of Redmond in the way of patches and *significant* updates to IE, *you are vulnerable*. You also will have to buy a whole new version of windows to get the next version of IE (unless the rumored IE dev team produces something).

As an internet user you can no long afford to be ignorant to the risks not only to yourselves but other internet users by using Internet Explorer. Computers infected through vulnerabilities in IE, Outlook and Outlook Express are many times turned into zombie systems that are used with many other infected PCs for spam forwarding and sending/spreading virii.

Do the world a favor: *Dump IE*.

Melissa found a neat plugin for FireFox that notifies you when you get new email in your Gmail account.

You can checkout the plugin here.

Amatuer Photography

Having flexed some picture muscles at the Zoo (and trust me, some of those were VERY difficult shots with my Olympus digital camera), I’m in the mood to ake some more.

Are there any amateur photographers in the crowd with some links or tidbits of knowledge to pass along?

Slashdot | CERT Recommends Mozilla, Firefox

Good. Now maybe the place I work will start to consider letting us use these browsers instead of IE. Now maybe I won’t have to sneak them onto my work computer…

If you’re fortunate enough to have a Gmail account, you have got to hurry yourself over to my friend Jon’s site.

He’s managed to uncover some good information about how to use bookmarklets with Gmail.

Some neat stuff.

Teh Zoo

Friday, we took Shelby to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

Pics up here. Of special note is this particular picture. I got a kick out of it.

Anyways, Shelby was only slightly interested in the animals, but she’s only 1 1/2. I’m sure it’ll get more exciting for her the older she gets, but I got some really good pics.

Birthday

Yup, today I hit 24.

Not sure what were going to do today, but I have the day off, so anything’s good by me.

Anniversary

Posted by J.A.S.O.N. on 24 Jun 2004 | Tagged as: Babble

Yesterday was mine and Crystal’s 3 year wedding anniversary. 3 years and she hasn’t strangled me yet. :-)

We ended up going to Carrabba’s Italian Grill for dinner after dropping Shelby off at Crystal’s grandparents.

Shrimp alfredo, Italian sausage and lobster ravioli. mmmm…

After that, Shelby spent the night at my grandparents so we could have the night alone. We relaxed, talked, watched tv. Great night.

Gmail

A very hearty thanks to my friend Jon for the Gmail invite. I’m perusing what’s available now.

My first impressions?

It’s a bit slower than I thought it would be. There’s not much to the interface, so it must be server load. Probably from all the signups and people clicking dead invite links on forums. I hope it speeds up.

There’s also no way to import addresses from any other email service/program. I hope that gets added as I would hate to have to retype all of those in again.

They promise keyboard shortcuts. I’ll have to give them a try to make sure I can adapt. The fact they included them is pretty nifty.

It has a ways to go to catch up to Yahoo! on functionality, but it’s a good start.

Treo Butler 1.7

Posted by J.A.S.O.N. on 23 Jun 2004 | Tagged as: Tech

I was holding off buying Treo butler as I felt it didn’t offer enough for the price (this was a while ago). Well, Treo Butler 1.7 was just released and, yes, it’s VERY worth it now.

I’m going to demo it to make sure there aren’t any instabilities, first, though.
