OpenOffice 1.1.1 and Gimp 2.0

Posted by J.A.S.O.N. on 31 Mar 2004 | Tagged as: Tech

New version of OpenOffice.org is out.

Free, smaller and available on more platforms than MS Office, why wouldn’t you install it? Go. Now. Do it.

While I’m at it, Gimp 2.0 is out, too. You can find a windows version here.

Sprint PRL Petition

Posted by J.A.S.O.N. on 31 Mar 2004 | Tagged as: Tech

If you have a Sprint phone, you may not realize that the internalt PRL* database needs to be updated on a regular basis. You probably don’t know this because Sprint doesn’t tell you and they don’t provide a way for you to do it yourself (you have to call Sprint Support and pray tehy know what you’re talking about).

Sprint PCS Info has started an online petition to try and persuade Sprint into providing means for us to update the phones ourselves. If you have a spring phone, I’d suggest signing it.

*PRL databases hold locations of cellular phone towersaround hte nation. Updating this database can provide better reception and lower roaming areas.

Sadistic Bastards

When lawyers who spam people with flyers know where your missing relatives are before their own family, you know that it’s time to get advertising under control.

Seriously people, advertising is WAY out of hand here. It’s getting worse than insurance and has WAY too much power in the US right now.

The government is trying to get a handle on electronic spam, but what about those of us who are innundated with credit card offers, advertisements from buisinesses on teh other side of the country and, now, letters from lawyers soliciting your busincess just hours after being arrested. Something has to change.

Moron Politicians

If you live in Ohio and like to have your vote mean something, you should read this, follow it’s advice and then sign up for the EFFector mailing list so you can get informed about other things that you’re nto told about.

* Stand Up for Accountable Voting in Ohio! [This is a joint alert from EFF and VerifiedVoting.org] Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell is forcing counties to purchase electronic voting (e-voting) machines that cannot be audited. If integrity in the voting process is important to you, here are two things you can do: 1) Send this letter urging your legislators to stand up to Blackwell and to require a voter-verifiable paper audit trail on e-voting machines. 2) Attend the next public hearing on Ohio election systems and make your voice heard. The meeting will be on Wednesday, March 31, 8:30 - 12:00 in the Senate Finance Room of the Columbus Statehouse. Use the EFF Action Center to send a letter: http://action.eff.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=2885 Thanks very much for taking the time to make your voice heard! EFF and VerifiedVoting.org

Stepmania…

UPDATE: Any further commets, emails, whatever asking for songpacks will be deleted without a reply. I don’t know where to get them.

Both John and Teh Remy managed to talk me into downloading a game called StepMania.

It’s a Dance Dance Rovolution clone for various different operating systems. Obviously uses the keyboard instead of a dance pad, but I think people have made the pads for the pc.

Anyway, I would just like to take the opportunity to say that they suck, because I’m now hopelessly addicted to it (no to mention I suck at it).

So, yeah.

UPDATE: In the comments, Patrick pointed out this site for songs and themes.

UPDATE 2: Since it appears that people can’t be bothered to actually READ the comments where people have given links to sites where stepmania packs can be found, I’m closing the comments.

I’ll also be going through the comments and removing all of the “where can I get song packs” comments since people can’t read.

Ryan (I’m not posting another link to his site) is having bandwidth problems partly due to the link that was posted in the comments of this post. He’s removed quite a few of the larger downloads and will be posting some ads and a donation link. Once that happens, I encourage everyone that downloads from him to help him out a bit since he’s asked me not to remove his link. I’ll post the donation link once I get it.

Pac Man for Teh Win…

Posted by J.A.S.O.N. on 15 Mar 2004 | Tagged as: Games

As John will attest to, Pac Man VS is Teh Win!

Seriously, if you have a Gamecube, a Gameboy and friends (maybe a little alcohol, too), this game just can’t be beat!

Here kitty, kitty…

For the cat lovers

Long time no post…

It’s funny how doing something you really like can fall by the wayside. My blogging, for instance. I really like to do it, however, I just don’t. I could come up with all kinds of reason such as being too busy, not having anything to say, et, etc.

The real truth of the matter is, I just don’t do it. I’m sure there’s plenty to say, plenty to relate and that I’ve lost a lot of visitors that used to come here due to my sporatic bursts of inactivity. I’ve also lost touch with some other bloggers that I used to talk to on a regular basis, and I apologize for that.

In reality, there really hasn’t been much going on. The weather is warming up (which is much appreciated). Managed to break out the grill yesterday for some steaks.

Shadowbane has consumed a lot of my free time, as usual. I’m looking to change that as I have a lot of home projects to get done and the nice weather is going to get me outdoors more often with Shelby.

I destroyed my old motherboard trying to upgrade the BIOS on it. This meant that Crystal and I were sharing a PC; a sitution i would rather not have go on long-term. I’ve just recently replaced it with some of our tax refund money. Spanky new MSI K7N2 Delta-L [LINK]. It doesn’t have the SATA controller my last one did, but I don’t use SATA, so it’s not a big deal. It also has a built-in 10/100 LAN card for when I go to those lan parties that don’t have wireless networks. I also bought a firewire card for our Mini-DV video camcorder. Haven’t the slightest idea how to use it yet, but I’m working on it. Guess I should get a DVD burner for thos home movies now, eh?

Shelby’s 14 months old and crawling up a storm. Not to mention trying to turn every. single. object into a chew toy. She also has a fascination with pressing the power button on my PC :-(

Work has been pleasant lately. Got some neat projects to work on and am trying to turn the “daily grind” into something I actually like doing.
