Gay Marriages

Without futher adue, my first post to the “Rants” category:
Gay Marriages. What a topic to start off with, huh?
First, let me start off by saying that I am a Christian. Not a bible-thumping, devout Christian, but I am Christian, none-the-less.
When I think of marriage, I really separate it into two separate things. There’s church marriage and legal marriage. a church marriage is marriage in the eyes of God being done by a preacher or priest of God. Legal marriage is exactly that. married under law. Usually performed by a Justice of the Peace or a Judge.
I’m all for legal gay marriages. Let the law marry them because, in the eyes of God, all men are created equal and homosexuals deserve just as many rights as heterosexuals. Why people think they deserve any less is beyond me. Damn homophobes.
However, I’m strictly against gay church marriages. First, God did intend man to be with woman and woman to be with man. Second, you probably won’t find a church that’ll marry a gay couple and I don’t think they should be forced to perform those marriages if it goes against their religion.
Those being said, I don’t feel that religion should be the basis for allowing or not allowing gay marriages as it currently is.
I feel people holding us gay marriages are not only wasting their time, but are sorely violating the separation of church and state rule. If you think about it, it’s true. In the eyes of the law, there’s really no difference between marrying two men/women and marrying a woman and a man. That leaves only religious beliefs in the way. Which means these guys are basing laws off of their religious beliefs.
Our own President and Attorney General both denounce gay marriages because of their religious beliefs. So I ask, where’s the separation of church and state there? Everyone gets in a fuss and arranges protests and sit-ins to keep a hunk of rock from being moved from a courthouse that doesn’t belong there, why aren’t these things being done in the name of gay marriages? Sickening, really.
A quote comes to mind when this comes up: “Judge not lest ye be udged judged (thanks for spotting that John) yourself”. Sound familiar? Christianity is about the belief in god and sharing that belief with others, NOT ramming it down every throat you see. I’m content with my belief and relationship with God and understand that, ultimately, it will be HIM that judges me. What can’t other Christians see that and let well enough alone?

Yeah, I really hate it when I’m being udged. It really ugs me.
Ditto everything you just said Jason. I couldn’t agree with you more.
Ok, I am not a Christian… far from it. I subscribe to a “religion” of being a decent human being. But, that aside, there are churches that will marry gay couples. There is a big movement of gay christians out there. In fact, in Dallas, of all places, there are a few homosexual-friendly churches, the world’s largest being the Cathedral of Hope. They have whole (and while I’m not a “religion”-type person, seemingly valid) arguments about the interpretation of homosexuals in the Bible.
Just fyi.
Thanks for the info Joelle. I had no idea there were churches that would marry homosexuals. Not that there’s anything wrong with that (sorry, couldn’t resist using that line
Either way, I still feel homosexuals deserve the same rights everyone else has.
I myself am a catholic person, however i’m not the bible hugging, crosswearing kind of catholic, i live by my own beliefs and i came across your website while researching for a project at school about gay marriages. A few things i have come across are…
If one is catholic and believes that God created everyone of us equally then does this not mean, gay couples as well, and if so should they not be entitled to the same equal rights as everyone else?
also did you know that under the charter of rights and freedoms Canadians are protected from discrimination and are guaranteed the right to equal rights? If so are we not going against the charter( part of Canadian identity) when discriminating against gay couples?
Obviously I myslef am Canadian and in Ontario our definition of gay marriage has been changed from
“union between one man and one woman” to “union between two persons”
I agree with everything said in your arguments and i stongly believe thay gay marriages will be granted, its only a mattar of time
In the constitution, all men are created equal…however there are people who just don’t bother to see that. The church, politics and any average person who is afraid of people being different. The law states this, or the bible says that…its not right in all cases. I personally don’t have anything against religion, I’m not catholic I’ll admit nor a political candidate in this matter but somthing has got to be done for everyone. It’s a battle that has been long fought…it’s gotta end for the better not for the worse.
i think you have a good point there and that a lot of people dont realize this. you should try to get this out and spread it to people so they can stop complaining about this problem. i think if people can separate this mixture of legal and religious beliefs this situation will be a lot easier to solve. yeah….
I’m totally against gay marriages because of my
religious beliefs. If you are a true beliver of
the bible and God you know the truth. One of the
main reason God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah was
because of the amount of gays. If God would
have wanted a man and a man to get married they would have been able to have children. If you look up the word marriage it means “the joining of
a man and a woman not a man and man. Do you accept
gays. Would you let your children be around gay people. Would you accept it if one of your childred was gay. Most people want equality for everyone but when it comes to their children they won’t accept it.
You may be against it, but you’re against it for religious purposes. Thic country was founded on teh beliefs that every individual could live free and be free of the church making decisions such as who can and cannot marry.
Denying gay marriages because of religious beliefs is not only unconstitutional, it goes against the very fabric of why this country was founded.
Not that you care, you just came here to bitch and leave like every other bible-thumping, self-righteous bastard out there.
these are all very good comments. i’am for gay marriages but this really is for people who are against gay marriages we always need to remember that the bible is not stricly something you live by it is something to use as a reference in hard times it should not dictate the actions of others only your own if that is what you choose yes i would accept if my children were gay and i would allow them to be around someone who is gay what a label this is another humanbeing just like you and myself every one should be able to not wear a labeland if god didnt want there to be people who were gay he would never had allowed them to be born that way and he shure as hell didnt give you the right to judge nore any one else.
I would have to say that I disagree with what you wrote. Its not about being a homophobe. If people think people are scared because they are against gay marriage then they’re wrong. I just feel that its wrong. No fear involved. Found this page on another web site. Its about gay marriage too marriage.

I agree with all of the above. Though I am a Morman I feel the same way. Homophobics are only afraid of what they don’t know.
Peace-

i was watching ricki lake today and it was all about gay marrieges. alot of ppl who is against it was sayin it is “Idealistic” to have a mom and a father figure for a kid to have a normal life. but come on now a days it is so rare for kids to have both a mother and father figure and most kids grow up just find. most gay couples really just want the ability to say this is my husband/wife and just have the paper to prove it. plus they would like the secuiry of when their partner passes on they can have the same benifits of the striaght marriage ppl. i mean at one point of time it was illegal for different races to be married. we got passed that and look the world isnt choas. in a way gay couples are no different then a straight couple. cz if u really think about it one partner is more feminie and the other mascular in both man/man and women/women relationships so really the only difference is the outside. just wish ppl in america would grow up and let gay ppl just be happy and not judged everyday.
GAYS marrieges I DON’T AGREE ON IT’S NOT RIGHT.
right on. the government can kiss ass.we’ll fight to the end.:starwars:they cant say it was gods intended plan for marrage because they say there is no religion in the constution
