Well, I bit the bullet and moved from windows2000 to RedHat 9.0. I totally ignored the poll I put up and decided not to dual-boot. Better to sever the connection quickly and remove the dependancy.
I’m acutally really enjoying it. Everything runs fairly smoothly and looks nice. I have most of the programs I need, such as Open Office (I don’t do much office-type work anyway), GAIM for IM (I used GAIM on windows, anyway), Mozilla for browsing (again, same for windows), Evolution for an outlook replacement and Xmms. I guess I’m not really out much.
I will have to make some adjustments for gaming. There have been some really cool game makers out there that have released linux clients, such as Unreal Tourney and UT2K3. Devastation will have a client soon and Bioware has a beta client of Neverwinter Nights (which is running beautifully, might I add).
Try as I might to avoid spending more money, a subscription to transgaming will still be neccessary to play Diablo 2, Thief and any other games that aren’t nice enough to satisfy the linux crowd.
If you have any recommendations on other software I should try, please drop me a comment/email/IM and let me know. More specifically, a decent RSS reader (not Amphetadesk).

When I dualbooted in the beginning and was still dependent on WinXP I set Red Hat as the “default” - 9 times out of 10 when I turn the computer on or reboot I wander off while waiting, and then of course I’m not around to change which OS the computer boots into. By the time Red Hat loads then I can’t be bothered rebooting into Windows unless I really need to use it.
congrats! i wish i had the balls to do it!
