Compile over Script?

[From Slashdot]
Slashdot has an article talking about how major businesses are supressing the talents of scripters because they don’t consider scripting as actual programming.
I have to disagree with that sentiment. Being a scripter for the company I work for, I can say that scripting can be just as difficult as “true” programming. I can also say that I can do things faster in scripts than most can in compiled code. Coding is coding, regaardless of whether your code is compiled or interpereted.
Also, supressing that kind of talent in your business is just stupid. If you can solve a problem in an hour with a script, why not use it rather than wait the 3 weeks it takes your developers to outline the problem and write a program to solve it that doesn’t crash teh system (in case of C or C++, which allows for serious system control/abuse).
I love scripting, it’s what’s gotten me this far in my career and anyone telling me that my skills are inferior to those of a “true” programmer is gonna get my boot in a very uncomfortable place.
Sorry about that. Had to rant and geek out at the same time. I now return you to your regularly scheduled off-topic posts.
