Man, what a crazy few weeks it’s been.

First, the computer problems I’ve had over the last month (2 dead harddrives, 2 replaced motherboards and a new power supply in a pear tree). This was the worst as it couldn’t have happened at a worse time. I hate having to spend that much cash on repairs around the Christmas season.

Next, Crystal has been spending an inordinate amount of time at her grandparent’s house. She does this because she’s on bedrest because of the baby and while I’m at work, I can’t care for her. So she stays with her grandparents. This proves extremly lonely for yours truly. My best friend’s been helping me by hanging out with me a lot (which hasn’t helped my sleep patterns at all), but I just would like to spend time with Crystal.

I’ve gotten almost no sleep over the past 2 weeks. this is evident by my being constantly late for work (who doesn’t really care as they know I have chronic insomnia). I really should see a doctor about it, but last time I went to see one of those white-robed quacks, I almost got admitted for suicidal tendencies (I was trying to get treated for depression). Since then, I’ve just learned to deal with it.

Been seeing a lot of my buddie’s Xbox recently. His dorm won’t let the traffic through to authenticate his live account, so he’s left it at my apartment for an undefined period of time.

I hate microsoft. I’ve never been shy about saying that. But, damn, I want an xbox. With live account and all. Mechassault got me hooked. I suck at it, but it’s a great game. then I got to play Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliances. Being a Mortal Kombat fan, I love this game. If you like any of the other Mortal Kombats, you *must* play this game. I just wish that someone other than Microsoft made the blasted thing.

Work has been less stressful as two major projects I’m on have been put on hold while revision control is put into place. This has freed up a lot of time. Most of that time has been devoted to transitioning back to the palm platofrm from my iPAQ.

Before the holy wars start, let me state that the pocketpc os is really good. I like it. A lot. but it was just too much. I didn’t use most of the things I bought it for (mp3, movies, etc), so I bought a low-end Sony Clie (PEG-SL10). Differences between the two:

Palm Pros:

  • Palms are *much* better organizers.
  • Many more programs, both freeware and shareware.
  • Smaller programs
  • Faster on equivilent hardware

Palm Cons:

  • Their expansion slots are a hack at best. There is absolutely no decent integration between the slot and the os other that the os recognizes the card. This requires 3rd parrty tools, many shareware, to utilize the card efficiently.
  • Microsoft’s text entry system is better than Grafitti.
  • Microsoft has better integration with expansion cards
  • Higher end palm models are just as expensive as pocketpc’s while utilizing slower hardware. Palm manufacturers need to either rethink their pricing structure or start offering higher-end hardware for the same prices.

Anyway, I’ve babbled long enough.
